I once borrowed a copy of the Concordia from my former pastor when I was still fairly new to Lutheranism, but I found it very difficult to get through. At the time I knew almost nothing of the historical setting of the later documents (pretty much everything newer than the creeds), and I gave up reading it and returned it barely used. Now, years later, I want desperately to read these. After all, I claim to be a confessional Lutheran, yet I haven't read all the confessions!! Want to read the confessions? This is the Concordia for you! Lots of great features in this book.First, there is a handy reader's guide that breaks it down into manageable daily chunks of reading that even busy people can get through with ease. You don't have to read every day, but if you did, you could easily get through the book in one year following the plan.Each section begins with a brief introduction that touches on the author, the historical setting, and explains why the document was written, and who its intended target was at the time of its writing. It helps to understand that many of these are in response to specific errors, or to grave but specific situations at the time. Notice I said the introductions were brief--this is important, because I don't want the intro to take me longer to slog through than the documents themselves. Just some quick info and then let me get on with it--if I want a full dissertation on the subject, I'll research further on my own. To me, these intros are just right.The text is a good size that won't strain the eye, but the book remains a reasonable size that is easy to manage and to take with you if you want to read on a longer car trip, which I did recently. The margins are generous if you, like me, learn better by peppering your books with copious amounts of marginalia.Definitely would recommend this book both to Lutherans wanting to understand their own confessions better, and to non-Lutherans wanting to know what we're all about.

This book was very solidly put together. I use the book weekly and often on a daily basis. The contents of this book are such that I am constantly going between the different sections, turning pages back and forth. It has stood up well and still does not show any signs of wear.

This reader's edition is the best BOC to own out of them all.

Easy to read history of Martin Luther and his reformers. This book is filled with amazing insights into the historical, political, social and religious climate during the reformation in Germany. The introductions to each section and article of the Augsburg confession are very helpful. Great read to remember where most of our American church's came from.

Why did they wait so long to write this version? It is incredible.

I had heard of many of the documents in the Lutheran Confessions but never had read them. I didn't grow up LCMS Lutheran so maybe this is just new to me but most people I've talked with who did grow up Lutheran have not read all of the Lutheran Confessions. The parts they have read, they read in Confirmation which was when they were young and many years ago. I think that anyone who is a Lutheran or who is interested in what Lutherans believe, church history, and what the Bible says on some very important Christian issues should read this book. This Reader's Edition has some great helpful information that makes this easy to read. Other than my Bible this is now my favorite book. (and at a great price)

The book is outstanding, but BEWARE OF THE KINDLE VERSION!!! Unlike the printed book version (hard or paperback), the Kindle version made by the publisher is missing ALL the photos that are critical to all the people mentioned. I complained to Amazon and suggested they increase their quality control to require that publishers make the Kindle versions have the complete contents, including photographs, etc that are in the print versions. I am very disappointed having discovered this huge defect on the Kindle version only when I bought the print version as a gift!!!

Great story of the King's life. It's clear it is partially to make a case why he was chosen to succeed instead of his Uncle but it is a good biography nonetheless. He paints a good picture of the issues facing the Middle East from the perspective of someone who is from there but he also understands the Western view of the world. The book is mostly biography, slightly propaganda (how can someone's own story not be, though?), and a little bit of suggestion how to move forward. It is dated by being written before the rise of Daesh (ISIS) but it can give some insight into how we got to that point.

King Abdullah II is a respectable, impressive, strong character. I initially purchased the book to better understand his philosophy on international relations. However, the book is more a focus on King Abdullah II himself, his background, and why he does what he does. The title is a bit of a misnomer. But if you're looking to understand more about the leadership in Jordan or learn more about royal relationships and personalities in the Middle East, this is a useful read.

I believe it is important to learn from a number of sources to get a realistic picture of events around the world. Even though I lived through these times I realize that we only get part of the picture from our media in the USA (NPR does a pretty good job.) This book is extremely interesting. I believe King Abdullah II to be a man of integrity and wisdom. I recommend it to anyone who cares about harmony in the world.

This book is largely a memoir of King Abdullah's life, but it does focus a fair amount on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. I thought he tried very hard to portray the Israeli government in a positive way but the reality is that that is very hard to do these days and you could tell in the last chapter that he had given up on that. Knowing very well people on both sides of the conflict, and having a fairly good grasp of the nuances of the conflict, and the blood and prejudice on *both* sides, I felt he did a very good job trying to present his views in a fair way. And he and his father have tried very hard to work to settle this conflict, which today seems farther from a solution than ever before. He does not gloss over or excuse the many unfortunate things that Palestinians have done to the Israelis over the years.He made an interesting and compelling point that the Palestinian/Israeli conflict is a direct driver of terrorism abroad, and that solving it would remove a lot of the ammunition that extreme elements of Arab Muslim society are using to radicalize vulnerable youth and exploit public unhappiness with how the United States uses its influence in the Middle East.Unfortunately, this book was published a year too early. After it was released, most of the fellow leaders in mentioned in the book have now been pushed from power in the popular uprisings across the middle east. The fact remains at the end of the day that as benevolent as the regime in Jordan is, it is still not a democracy. It would be interesting to have King Abdullah address the fallout of Arab spring in his book.

What I enjoyed most about this book was the author's true feelings about the shortcomings of his own Islam faith and the continued understanding of the U.S. involement in Middle East problems. He seems to understand why we help other nations taken advantage of, and he supports the U.S. efforts in trying to being peacemakers in the coutries surrounding the good people of Jordan! Easy to read and understand!

This book by Jordan's King Abdullah provides valuable insight into the thinking of one of the Middle East's most progressive and moderate leaders. Of particular interest to Western readers, King Abdullah uses this book to speak against terrorism and emphasize the importance of moderate Islam in refuting extremism. He further devotes a short chapter to the "Amman Message" which was announced with considerable fanfare in Jordan and outlines the Jordanian stand against terrorism. The King also adds a great deal of detail about al-Qaeda's attempt to assassinate him in 2000, and is quite open about his country's efforts to hunt down Jordanian-born al-Qaeda leader, Abu Musab al Zarqawi for crimes against Jordan. King Abdullah also discusses the role that his intelligence officials had in working with the United States to orchestrate Zarqawi's death in a U.S. air raid against a secret headquarters in Iraq. Additionally, please be aware that the audio version of this book is brilliantly and convincingly rendered by a professional narrator in very slightly Arabic-accented English. W. About the Author

Steven G. Conover writes books on clock repair and clockmaking. His eleven titles include Clock Repair Basics, a beginning book; Chime Clock Repair, a text covering the most common chime clocks seen by repairers; Building an American Clock Movement, which illustrates how to make a complete timepiece movement; and Repairing French Pendulum Clocks, covering several types of French clocks.As editor of Clockmakers Newsletter, Steven published an eight-page subscription newsletter featuring clock repair articles, repair tips, questions & answers, and product reviews, from 1987 through 2008.He is working on a new Workshop Series version of Clockmakers Newsletter. The series presents the edited, updated content of the newsletters, reorganized by topic, in book form. Ten books are planned; the first two were published in December 2011. Steven is a graduate of Northeastern University, Boston Mass., and a Fellow of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors (NAWCC).

Great repair guide [especially for the beginner like myself]. Steven's use of pictures and diagrams fully supports his discussion of repair topics and assists with learning the various parts, their names and function. A great follow-on to his "Basic Repair Guide". Although some prefer hard bound books, I like the loose spiral binding, it allows the reader to keep the page of interest open for reference while working at the bench. I will be ordering his "Chiming Clock Repair Guide" in the near future as well!His dedication to informing people interesting in clocks is evident. Purchased as a gift for my husband as he has been restoring and repairing clocks for many years. The book he found very thorough, great photos, and educational.

This book is about the strike mechanism only! This classic book was my first purchase on the subject. The author could use an editor. That said, he really works hard to make it understandable. Good for the collection, but you will want others to fill in the blanks of your understanding (but, to be fair, this might be true of any clock book).

i HAD A QUESTION ,SO I CALLED THE AUTHOR . HIS PHONE NUMBER IS IN THE FROM OF THE BOOK. I DIDN'T THINK THE NUMBER WOULD BE GOOD BUT HE ANSWERED AND I GOT WISDOM AT NO EXTRA CHARGE PLUS THE BOOK IS BRAND NEW NOT USED.

Steven's books are a very good addition to the library of any clock repairer.

have a grandfather clock I need to sort of reassemble after we moved it. Really need a grandfather clock for dummies as this and the other books I purchased are for multiple styles of clocks and seem to be written for people who want to repair all types of clocks.

What a great reference book and it has tips in there that deal with adjusting the strike mechanism, very helpful.
