Both the title and description refer to this being a collection of "novels," but that is incorrect. Not all of the works listed are novels; some are actually SHORT STORIES. (Even the lengthy LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW is not a novel but a short story.) I also would quibble with assigning the label "gothic" to some of these items; not every spooky tale is gothic, and there are certain characteristics a true gothic should display which more than a few of these don't. And the TOC is one tedious listing of titles and chapters through which one must scroll.Be aware that VARNEY THE VAMPIRE, a VERY lengthy "penny dreadful," is here very incomplete, so don't invest your time reading anything less than the real and complete version (with Varney's proper demise).Every title here is available individually in a free public domain edition, so given the imperfections of this bundle you may wish to go that route. (CAUTION: The free, public domain version of the aforementioned VARNEY omits almost the entire last half of the book. A full version should have at least 22O chapters, and sometimes MORE in editions whose editors have corrected errors originally made in numbering the separately-published parts that, altogether, constitute the complete story.)Overall, however, the novels and short stories contained here ARE worth reading. THEY (collectively) rate 5-stars. So for that reason alone, as long as this bundle remains free or only $.99 (and assuming you don't already own most -- if not all -- of these very common works) you may still wish to download it.
