I don't follow the Hamptons Diet because, despite the very smart premise, I find it a bit complicated, what with the food lists and all.The cookbook, on the other hand, is absolutely fantastic. Not only are the recipes delicious, you can actually use this book with a variety of plans! Because most of the recipes aren't too high in fat and can easily be modified to further decrease the fat, eliminate the dairy, etc, this book offers a wide variety of fantastic recipes that can be utilized no matter whih plan you are on (including Fat Flush and South Beach).I'm Italian but I do best on a moderate-carb diet. However I also have a tendency to digestive trouble (ulcerative colitis and IBS run in the family) so I don't do well on the tipical high-fat, dairy-rich fare most low-carb books offer. This books is perfect for me: it offers lots of recipes with Mediterranean flavors, made with fresh ingredients, and it doesn't overdo the fat and dairy.The best "diet" cookbook on the market!

This is an easy read book that gives us a look at a regular teenager living with HIV. It gives excellent resources and suggestions on how to help.

I bought Ana's story because I wanted to see what kind of book Jenna Bush would write. Jenna spent some time as a worker for Unicef, and during this time she interviewed Ana - not her real name - who had been infected with the HIV virus at birth.Ana's story is enlightening because it reveals how one very real person is coping with living with HIV, through no fault of her own. Jenna did a good job both in telling her story and in providing resources at the end of the book for more information or to help with this growing problem. The book is short; I finished it in just a few reading sessions.Ana's story is useful to me for another reason: It shows how a young person can make a meaningful contribution. Granted, Jenna Bush is the daughter of a president, but she didn't have to spend time in a third world country and she didn't have to record Ana's story for us. She is a teacher, and it is obvious from her work that she is also a person with a passion.I recommend Ana's story to anyone, but especially to young people looking for ways they can "make a difference."

It appears that some readers are put off by the format and the fact that this is not great literature. However, it is a well-enough-written book in an interesting format that can be enjoyed by younger and older readers. It is nonfiction and it is the story that counts and we decide how we respond to it. This is a book that leaves room for response and reflection. No, the story is not told in vivid description nor are the characters developed as a novel would be. It is a straight-forward story that less experienced readers can enjoy. When I say "enjoy" I mean it is a story that one feels connected to and it matters little if we have heard similar stories before. This is about one human being and there is enough in it to lead to discussions among young adult readers that will allow them to share their own meanings as it touches their experience and understandings.I cannot belive that some would doubt that Jenna wrote this? Why? (I cannot help but comment that one very negative reviewerdidn't even spell "matter" correctly.) Jenna is an educated woman and let's get over the fact that her father is President, please. Did she have an advantage by having a recognizable name, sure! But the story is still one that is worthy of the telling and the photo easy-to-read format adds to the uniqueness of the book. It is what it is and what it is,is a good read on an important subject. It need not be more. Someone else can write a book about this topic in a more literary format and many young people who will find enlightenment in this will not read that book. There is room for a variety of books for a varied audience in this world.

I run a reading group for middle-school girls. This was a perfect book to get the discussion going on boys, AIDS, step-parents and child abuse. Jenna tells a gripping tale of Ana who has had a tough life and faces many problems in her future. Even though Ana lives in South America she could be from anywhere - even here in the U.S.This book has short chapters and is written on a 7th grade level - great for kids dealing with grown-up subject matter.

Dr. Beeke has done a superlative job of balancing the keys aspects of Reformation-style preaching, the history of Reformation preachers, and how the core elements of brilliant homiletics coalesce. Someone once said, "If you want to get people's attention, bait your hook with your heart." I believe that is the key message of Dr. Beeke's book and is nicely reflected in the book's title. The book is easily read, understood, and should be in the hands of any seminary student (or seasoned pastor) who would like to add to their knowledge of the fine art of Reformed sermon development, delivery, and reception by a congregation.

If you have been called to herald God's word, or if you just want to to know what clear and faithful preaching of God's word looks like, then this book is a must read. I cannot say enough good things about Beeke's book, it truly has been one of the most formative books in my life outside of Scripture. Beeke's thesis of the necessity to biblically and faithfully preach to the heart and mind, Reformed experiential preaching, is one that must be heeded to.

Preaching the Word of God is at the very center of pastoral ministry. Indeed, the task of preaching God’s Word that should occupy a good portion of the pastoral week. Neglecting this critical responsibility results in weak sheep who are unable to discern the times. Minimizing or marginalizing preaching always leads to a malnourished flock.Joel R. Beeke addresses the matter of preaching in his latest volume. Reformed Preaching: Proclaiming God’s Word from the Heart of the Preacher to the Heart of the People underscores the importance of the preaching task and inspires every expositor who is set on obeying the biblical mandate. Beeke alerts readers to his purpose early in the book:May God graciously use this book to promote God-honoring preaching that addresses the real needs of his people - preaching that is not only biblically doctrinal, covenantal, historian-redemptive, and practical, but also biblically and warmly experiential both in its applicators and discriminatory dimensions for the building up of the universal church.At the center of Beeke’s concern is preaching that engages the affections, a quality that is sorely absent from many Reformed pulpits. He offers a stern warning for preachers who provide good instruction but fail to nourish the flock of God! This identical concern also occupied the attention of Jonathan Edwards:I should think myself in the way of my duty to raise the affections of my hearers as high as IO possibly can, provided that they are affected with nothing but the truth … Our people don’t so much need to have their heads stored, as to have their hearts touched; and they stand in the greatest need of that sort of preaching that has the greatest tendency to do this.Herein lies the dilemma for the preacher - engaging both the head as well as the heart. Tragically, too many Reformed preacher’s aim for the head and miss the heart altogether. Beeke’s work seeks to remedy this dreadful state of affairs. Experiential preaching is deeply Reformed, that is, “it helps people to see God as the great King of grace, present and working at all times and places to carry out his wise plan of eternal love.”Part Two illustrates Reformed experiential preaching. Fifteen chapters are packed with examples of how to preach in this fashion. The like of Calvin, Goodwin, Bunyan, Edwards, and contemporary pastors like Lloyd-Jones are presented which provide a wealth of information and inspiration. This section is historically illuminating and practical from start to finish.Part Three addresses preaching experientially today. A host of lessons are set forth for contemporary preachers to meditate upon and immediately apply. Beeke urges preachers to be balanced in their approach: “We must speak with the tenderness of a nursing mother and the earnest love of a father, sharing with them not only the truth but opening our very souls to them.”The author encourages preachers to be bold, even when some react with scorn to biblical dogma: “At first a sinner may dread and hate God’s sovereignty. But when convinced of his responsibility to repent and his inability to do so, God’s sovereignty becomes the sweetest of attributes, for only a sovereign Savior can help us.”Above all, our preaching must be Christ-centered. This theme occurs again and again in this volume, leaving preachers no room to equivocate or compromise. Preachers are reminded that “it is a fact of human nature that men would rather do penance (to try to atone for sin by doing good works) than repent (to hate and forsake sin). Therefore, faithful preachers must be Christ-centered as they stand behind the pulpit.It is exceedingly difficult to convey the depth and richness of Joel Beeke’s Reformed Preaching. When it comes to Christian theology and the application of biblical truths, the Puritans are among my favorite to read and study. Aside from the Puritans themselves, the name that comes to mind when I think of them is Joel Beeke, a Puritan scholar of the highest order. Having been acquainted with the writings of the Puritans and the Reformers from his youth, he has read hundreds (perhaps thousands) of books filled with Puritan and reformed sermons.When I saw that Beeke released Reformed Preaching, I knew I wanted to get my hands on it. I had already come across his lectures on reformed experiential preaching, and I wanted to get my hands on a copy of the book so I could dive into the topic even further. To say it immediately impacted my preaching is an understatement. I have begun to weave application throughout my sermons, with extra focus on helping believers live in light of the truths of Scripture.Beeke’s premise—the opposite of the most preconceived notions of reformed preaching—is that preaching shouldn’t simply be a rehearsing of exegesis in front of a crowd of people. For preaching to follow in the footsteps of the Reformation, it needs inform the mind of a the believer, but it fails if it doesn't pierce the heart and reach into the life of the hearer. That begins with the preacher who has experienced God and His Word in such a way before he ever proclaims it to the church. Only then can he powerfully deliver God’s Word in a life-changing way.It is important that preachers don’t unnecessarily separate the objective realities of scripture with the subjective experiences of God’s presence and the working of His Word in everyday life. It should lead to lively, obedient doxology.Two excellent features of the books are the biographical sketches of reformed preachers and their impact on theology and preaching today. These small biographical sections highlight the emphases of these preachers, their impacts on reformed preaching, and their productivity as men of God. These are sure to inspire and spur preachers on to the glorious and weighty task of pulpit ministry. At the same time, rather than a sentimental fascination with the preachers of old, Beeke reminds us of the importance of carrying the biblical and theological emphases from the reformation preachers into the present.Preachers and those aspiring to the proclamation of God’s word should purchase a copy of this book and study it thoroughly. I highly recommend this. This book is not 'perfect', I don't agree with all of the translations to modern English, however, it has been extremely helpful getting my teenage son both interested in and able to understand Romeo and Juliet. Each page has a modern English 'translation' shown side-by-side with the original text. It would be helpful to have this for all the Shakespeare plays.

Despite that the modern translation can no way match the beauty of the original writing of Shakespeare, and that a modern translation will have great difficulties in faithfully translating the original version, it does provide a good and convenient way for us to appreciate the masterpiece of Sharespeare. I would suggest to buy two versions: one is this version to provide a quick glance into the drama of Romeo and Juliet, and another version without modern translation, but with underlying notes to provide better insights/explanations on more difficult/complicated wordings of Shakespeare's writing.

I'm using this with my 9th graders. It's great because I have some who really prefer to read Shakespeare in the original language and the side by side allows for the differentiation I need. The language is very modern and understandable.

This was very helpful for students in my freshman English classroom.

This was required reading for my daughters English Honors class, and it really helped her understand the book. On each page there were two columns, one in Shakespeare's words, and the other column of the same page it was written in plain understandable English. I would recommend this to anyone (like me) who has a hard time understanding the language from that time period.

I have read and enjoyed the whole Anita Blake series. In fact this is actually the sixth time I've read the whole series. Every time I get a friend to start reading it U begin the series all over again. I find U really enjoy it again and it helps my friends when we have lunch and they can discuss parts about the story or about Anita Blake they missed or didn't understand. Anyone reading this review try the series it's a great/must and enjoyable read. You may read other reviews about Anita Blake saying it turns into to much sex. Hold up people did you not read that she's a form of succubus, that's what it means. But the vampire hunting, zombie raising, honor and justice of Anita Blake remains the same. Reading through to the last book you'll understand the plot and agree with Ms. Hamilton that the story line is strong from beginning to the last book. If in the middle of the series you begin to agree with a few of the reviewers that it's all about the sex or to much sex, then like them you don't have what it takes to read A GREAT SERIES, from a GREAT WRITER.

This is by far the worst book of the series no joke....I am so pissed because I feel like I just watched one of my most beloved characters die right before me....make no mistake about it this book for me was the death of Anita Blake. Spoiler Alert!!!! How could Hamilton reduce anita to using just sex to get out of the situation...she really didn't save the day like she use to she more like fell a part. She did as she was told all the way to the point of giving a BJ by force and the only way to distroy the bad guy was to make him cum. You know what use to make these novels great in the past was their beautiful integration of mystery, drama, romance, and sex...but all of that has been lost now Anita seems confused, tired, and too harshly used for my liking, its not tastefull anymore...I know that im not the only one that felt like her waking up in the room with all those men and no memory was more like rape this time than ever before when she has used those exact same seens. This book was so terrible there is really no way to sum it up coherently anymore there was no progression...There was way too much time spent questioning Anita's sex life and what the hell is up with her tring to convince the cops to like her and take her seriously!! What made her so great is that she didn't give a damn!!! what a shame, this loss will never be filled....

Anita is lured to Las Vegas by Vittorio, the serial killer vampire that just slipped away in the last book. I thought that was so Hamilton could build a blockbuster around the rematch. Yeah this firecracker just fizzled then went out. Now Anita has three tiger breeds in her, no four. Please!!! Why not more wolf breeds? Timber, Grey's, Reds??? Hated this one. All the guys are absent and the men that are just numbers, who we have no investment in.

I've read all of the Anita Blake book series and each book gets more frustrating than the last. I used to love Anita's character at the beginning, she was strong and I get it a bitchy cause of what she's been through but now she comes off as selfish, inconsiderate, slutty, and just a drama queen. She's dating so many men who are in love with her (but it's never her fault) they are asking her to stop adding more men to her list and what does she do? add 2 more. Seriously? She won't allow the men to date anyone but her but she can sleep with anything that moves. She has so many super powers now. There's too much for me to complain about. I've only continued reading because since I started with the series I intend to finish it and also because I'm hoping the author will tone it down.

I really think Miss Hamilton needs a better editor. Too many repeated words, and too much obvious exposition. Too many men asking too many questions for no other purpose than to explain the story, or give Anita a compliment. The main character really has turned into a Mary Sue. The story wasn't half bad, but execution was simply ok. I used to think Hamilton had a knack for really fun, witty dialogue...now it's all whiney men and Anita complaining about her issues. I did like her interaction with the Wicked Truth, which makes me think she needs to end the series. I would enjoy a story with just Anita and Jean Claude; that is a bit overdue.

Anita is learning but there seems to be a new problem every time she thinks she is gaining control. I did think Anita should have turned the table in Shaw and the other police that just give her shut for her love life. We need Anita to do her job but I know the police that give her the most shut are hiding there own problems.

I have to say her other books read better flow well and make sense what she did at the beginning of this book with Jean-Claude made no sense to me I’m waiting to see if this is the way it’s going to be or if it was just one off

If you liked the old books, this might finally be one for you.There is, sadly, gratuitous magic sex, but it's not as all-encompassing as in other books. The plot shows up early, and develops steadily through the book. Anita talks about justifying phosphorous grenades, instead of justifying stockings with garters for daily wear.Edward is in this one. With his whole crew. The gore is pretty gory with Olaf around. It's like old times.The only thing lacking is action, but I would be satisfied if there were more books like this one. It's not amazing, but I enjoyed it.
