I am a very lucky person, because living in Los Angeles, I get frequent opportunities to see Matt Adrian's paintings and prints up close. I own several, and the originals aren't inexpensive. This book is a compilation of his work up until now (2011) and it loses nothing in print. The work is clever, simple, beautiful and sometimes, painfully poignant. The book is a simple set-up; no wordy introduction or notes in margins. It doesn't offer the viewer any distraction or direction on what the artist was intending or how something should be read. It is the paintings and their respective, witty titles, plain and simple, and how it should be. Printed on decent weight, glossy paper, it is suitable and priced right for giving as well. A person can also go to Mincing Mockingbird's website or on etsy, to buy the prints, notecards, and magnets. There is new stuff on there all the time. (Gosh, reading this it sounds like I work for the guy, but honestly, I just am a legit fan, and this is the first art work in years, that I have felt motivated enough in to collect.)
Wonderful pictures with surprising and funny captions. This book makes you laugh, think, scratch your head and it makes you want to pick it up and go through it often.
I'm a sucker for quick wit and fabulously painted birds. Matt does both spectacularly and I LOVE this book so much I've purchased at least 6 of them to give as gifts, ahhhh my lucky friends.
Came in great condition and a friend of mine, who's a great bird-lover loved the book and that's all I ask for.
The artwork in this book is absolutely brilliant. The colors are very vibrant. Love the witty captions accompanying the work. I am hoping that the artist will publish another book.
Admittedly a big fan of Matt Adrian's art and sense of humor for years, I was very excited for the official release of his collection of paintings with their quirky titles. I wasn't prepared for the size of the publication, which is quite large, with many of the vibrant paintings being presented as a "full bleed", taking up the entire page of the book. The quality of the paintings makes this a beautiful gift for any art or bird lover, and the titles of each painting will keep you giggling every time you open the pages. Highly recommend!
This is my first Amazon review, but I loved this book so much that I wanted others to know about it and buy it right away.Each page contains an illustration of original (avian) artwork and each one comes with a pithy title that lends a dimension of extra awesome to the painting. The beauty of this book is that although the art is already so expressive that it does not require the addition of the titles, these titles are so smart that instead of feeling overworked, the book rises above other "novelty" books to become art. But not that stuffy, fancy kind of art -- the fun, clever, sort that doesn't take itself too seriously despite having all the appropriate credentials.(I may be a little jealous that I didn't do this first.)Anyway: Go forth and purchase, dear friends!
Recently, a year or so after receiving and enjoying this book as a gift, I happened to pick it up and laughed myself silly all over again as I reread it. It does not get old.
