My cousin bought this book for me as a young adult when it first came out, and when my daughter started coming out of her room looking like an Oompa Loompa, I knew I had to get her a copy. Youtube tutorials are fun and all, but those girls have their faces far too overdone for everyday make-up, and of course being a teenage girl, mom knows nothing. Cindy Crawford's Basic Face is just that -- the basics. My daughter re-learned how to do her makeup so that she looks like a normal human being, and she's done now in 5 minutes rather than an hour.

I saw this book suggested somewhere on youtube. As the other review listed this book is completely useless for anyone over 12. Very basic introduction. I recommend Bobbi Brown's guide if you're looking to learn technique and useful tips.

I love this book! I think because Cindy Crawford has so much experience with the world of beauty that she cuts through all the bull, and gets to basic stuff if you want to wear make-up but do not want to look like a floozy. Plus, she gives great tips on buying makeup, using makeup, etc. She gives unvarnished but very helpful advice. It is the best book I have seen on beauty tips. Plus the pictures and silver cover are cool too. I am surprised it is not on shelves anymore. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't know what they are doing when it comes to makeup.

I purchased this book in the year 1996. I love this book because it offers a lot of advice on how to apply makeup. As a matter of fact, I have been a super huge fan of Cindy Crawford ever since I was a young teenage girl during the early 1990s. I have enjoyed her work. I especially enjoy Cindy's great sense of fashion. Cindy Crawford not only knows how to apply makeup, but Cindy also knows how to pose in front of the camera. Cindy Crawford is extremely professional and she is very smart, educated, and very level--headed. I love Cindy Crawford. I have a lot of respect for her, and most of all I really love her book titled: Cindy Crawford's Basic Face. Now if you are a fan of the very lovely and talented Cindy Crawford, I recommend that you purchase her spiral hardcover book titled: Basic Face and do not forget to also purchase Cindy's newly released book which is titled: " Cindy Crawford Becoming" This particular hardcover book was recently released on September 29, 2015. I think people like to bag this book simply because Cindy Crawford wrote it. It's like "oh, she's a model, professionals do her makeup and she has to be too dumb to write anything worthwhile anyway". Actually this is the best book I've ever seen on makeup and the one I'd pick above any other to recommend and I'm a qualified makeup artist myself.A lot of the things you'll find in this book make up the foundation of the course where I studied (the section in beauty as opposed to screen and theatrical). Why? - because it's the essentials of what beauty and everyday makeup is all about. It gives you all the basics and then pointers to enable you to develop your own style. It's also easy to follow, well written and yet very comprehensive.I've personally found that most books by professional makeup artists only appear to help you, but in reality just give a lot of pretty pictures with little workable substance. And if you know what you're looking at, most of their 'tips' and methods arn't that great either. These books have struck me overall as being more for self-promotion then anything else. A makeup artist with a book full of glossy model and celebrity photo's, if it sells well, will instantly become a 'star' makeup artist.Totally recommend this book for actually delivering what it promises to.

If you love Tricia Levenseller's Daughter of the Pirate King, you're going to love Tricia's next heroine as she's a tough as nails warrior woman! Warrior of the Wild is Tricia's standalone novel that follows Rasmira, the only female warrior in her village and when she's betrayed by people she thought she knew, she finds herself outcast from her village with an impossible task set before, she should want to seek redemption. This was a fast paced story filled with adventure, surprises galore, and MONSTERS!Rasmira is the only female warrior in her village and she's been trained to follower in her father's, the leader of the village, footsteps. But when she and the other warrior trainees take their final test to prove themselves, Rasmira finds out she has been betrayed by the people she thought she knew. It's not long into the story when we find Rasmira being outcast into the wilds. She's give an impossible task known as a mattugr that basically sets her up for failure in its impossibility. The task? To kill the god that has been terrorizing their villages for years.I was quite surprised that once Rasmira is on her way to her seclusion in the wilds that she encounters two other outcast teens. At the same time, I was actually hoping for something like this to happen because I couldn't imagine reading a 300+ page book about a heroine who didn't get to interact with anyone other than monsters and the god she is tasked with killing. She meets Soren and Irik, two boys who failed their final tests and have their own impossible mattugrs ahead of them. While Rasmira is loathed to let herself trust again, she finds herself doing just that with these boys. They discover that if they have any hope of returning to their homes, they will have to learn to work together.I quite enjoyed Rasmira's interactions with Soren and Irik! And never fear, there is no love triangle here as Irik is already spoken for! But that leaves Soren up for grabs! Soren is the first to "fall," yet Rasmira isn't about to let her heart get broken again and constantly shuts down Soren's attempts. It was rather realistic to see Rasmira being unwilling to trust Soren whatsoever. The way that she was betrayed would definitely leave its scars on you and trusting again wouldn't be easy. But as you can imagine, that begins to change, ever so slowly, over the course of the novel.I really enjoyed Rasmira's character. She wasn't perfect, she had her flaws, but I really liked that she began to learn that about herself and slowly change (in the right ways) to become a better person. She wasn't horrible mind you, but there were little things that get pointed out to her eventually and though it's never stated, you can clearly see her trying to be better.The ending was quite amazing! I loved everything that led up to it and then the grand finale itself! The story leaves us in the perfect place too! It's the way I prefer my series (and standalones) to end! Warrior of the Wild has a lot going for it! It's action packed, there's MONSTERS, seriously scary and deadly monsters, romance, humor, shocking surprises, and growth from lessons learned. It was thought provoking in a roundabout way.There were only a few minor things that bugged me about this. Nothing too extreme, but I feel like I can't say with confidence that it was a flawless read. Sure there were times when I didn't agree with Rasmira's choices, but I feel like that's typical of any book because if she made the choices I wanted her to go for, there wouldn't be a story! Lol. Perhaps I just needed more to the story as well. Just the simple MORE. I think if there was just a little something more to it I would be all over giving this one five stars. It's still a tremendously worthy story that I still highly recommend! It's definitely different from my usual fantasy reads and I really loved the warrior woman vibe it had going! This is a story not to be missed!Overall Rating 4/5 stars

I love Norse Mythology. Well, I love mythology period. I`m a complete sucker for mythology. I enjoy learning what civilizations past, and even people now, turned to when they needed something, anything to believe in. I hopped onto this story after discovering Levenseller through Owlcrate with her Daughter of the Pirate King duology. I absolutely devoured this book in one sitting. I was up until about 3 am I believe.*First off, I have so many little flags of quotes that got me and will be added to my quote book soon. This book, like her others, was full of a self determined and self believing female MC who proves she can break the mold and challenge the way of things. I also enjoyed the difference of the 2 gods. Primarily, one that lives and terrifies the people and one who watches over and embraces her people in warmth.***Also, beware of Torrin...***Also, I want that metal/those rocks***READ IT!!!! AND HER OTHER BOOKS!!!

This book is one full of adventure and "romance" and redemption.Rasmira is banished to the wild after betrayal on multiple fronts. Through her harrowing journey, she makes friends, learns what it means to be a leader, and learns about forgiveness.The romance is definitely YA, well, YA as I wish it would be (making out but no sex). The relationship builds slowly and realistically.Rasmira learns how to be a leader by helping others on their quests. She realizes what true leadership looks like and earns the respect of her fellows.She also learns about forgiveness, as her fellow banished struggle with resentment toward one another.In the end, not everything is perfect (because that's not how real life works), but there is hope for the future.Quick and engaging read. I really enjoyed it.

THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED IT TO BE.Oh my goodness. The book is beautiful to begin with. The story was easy to fall into and the characters are my new besties. I want to be a warrior like Raz. She is awesome and her arc was exactly what I wanted it to be. And Soren. Oh I love him. The setting was easy to follow and the monsters were fantastic. Just everything was wonderful.

This was such an amazing story. One I just could not put down. I am left wanting more wanting the story to continue on! It is so rewarding to have these kick ass women standing up for themselves and kicking butt. I don't think I can read stories any more if the women is portrayed helpless.

I loved this book so much! I love her writing style and strongly recommend if you love this to check out her other books! I loved those as well. I couldn't get enough of this book I didn't want it to end! Just wanted to continue the story as much as I can! Look forward to reading anything by this amazing author!

I will be 82 years old in two and a half months. Been in and out of church many times. At this point in my life I need a better understanding of Christianity. This was a good place to start.

In other reviews, this book is compared unfavorably to C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity." I beg to differ. I'll give you an example. I was visiting with a patient at the hospital where I serve as chaplain. She was unconscious for about a week at the beginning of her stay, so I talked with her husband almost every day. He considers himself "spiritual," but has some problems with Trinitarian theology. I had a hardbound copy of this book in my library. I gave it to him to read and review with me. He loved it! His problem with most churches is in their inability to appreciate what we would call the First and Third Articles of the Creed (God as Father and the Holy Spirit as our "comforter"). He likes both of these Articles! He just can't figure out where Jesus fits in. I believe this book has helped him to rethink his understanding of God. He may not be where I would like him to be, but he respects me for having the convictions of this book. Because of it's emphasis on the First and Third Articles, I think this is a great resource for teaching "spiritual" people in the 21st century why Christianity makes sense.

O.T. Wright is the modern day version of the highly acclaimed Oxford and Cambridge professor, C.S. Lewis, a twentieth century theologian who wrote "Mere Christiananity" and the highly acclaimed "The Screwtape Letters." Wright spends a number of chapters cleverly setting up the true messages he wants to convey. At times, his thinking sounds anything but "simply" Christian but ultimately his book will challenge your process through your endeavor of being the person God wants you to become and helps you to "aha" moments.

Just finished NT Wright's "Simply Christian" and I can't help but gush a little. Its a modern "Mere Christianity" and he is a living C.S. Lewis. I've sensed a fraying in our culture and church when it comes to theme and purpose. Perhaps we have overly diced our Bible and hinged our theologies on favorite fragments...somehow the themes and the hope is lost. Wright weaves the story back together. He's refreshingly fuzzy where life and the Bible get fuzzy and clear and vivid where our souls hunger and break. If you are content with your faith or lack there of don't read this book...otherwise buckle up and enjoy.(P.S. highly recommend getting the kindle book and the audible book and listening and reading together as the Kindle app now flips the pages for you as you listen to the book. Very well read.)

N.T. Wright has an amazing way of teaching challenging subjects in easy to understand ways. He weaves analogy throughout the book, not just as examples to help a single illustration, but often to weave together the whole concept he's addressing. As an amateur theologian, I'm quite impressed with this work, what he teaches, and especially where he challenges the reader and the Church to follow Christ more deeply and authentically.

Wow, another great book from N. T. Wright. This has to be the book of the year for 2006. This is a great book for anyone looking to defend or learn more about Christianity. He deals with two world views that are false throughout the book. One is pantheism or the idea that God is everywhere and in everything or is everything and the other view is deism. Deism is the idea that God created the world but stays distant to it and does not even dream of getting involved in it affairs. He sees the latter as being the idea of God behind left behind type of theology that sees to goal of Christianity as being getting people saved to get them out of this world. Wright's view makes better sense of God and the world. In Wright's view heaven overlaps and interlocks with Earth and is not distant from it and neither is God in everything. The world was created good and became distorted by Adam and Eve's or humanities disobedience. God went to work to restore his good creation by calling Abraham. His seed was to be the means by which the world was put back to rights. The story of the nation of Israel includes slavery, Exodus; judges and kings, tabernacles and Temples being built; disobedience through injustice and idoloatry and all kinds of uncleaness brought about exile. The prophets then came an promised return from Exile. Jesus brings the story of Israel to it climax and brings about New Creation through resurrection. Wright works through this story like nobody else can and then in he end acts as a pastor when it comes to coaching on such things as prayer, Bible reading, fellowship, and sacraments. This is a book that should be read by everyone. It is destined to be a classic.

The author creates a structured approach to providing evidence for Christianity and offers practical advice based upon his evidence. Stated early in the book, the structure includes the longing for justice, the quest for spirituality, the hunger for relationships, and the delight in beauty.After reading this book, I realized how intuitive the points seemed in retrospect. They just made sense, and the structured approach lined everything up in favor of the Christian faith. This differs from my experience with Mere Christianity, where I needed to stop and think after each major point to understand CS Lewis' arguments. Although both books are often recommended for people interested in growing their faith, Simply Christian provides a simpler (no pun intended) starting point than Mere Christianity for the beginner seeking to learn.

I am 3/4 of the way through this book and I love it. Having grown up with a pretty rigid belief in the way a Christian is supposed to view God, church, and worshiping God, this was a fresh, new way of looking at Christianity and belief in Jesus. NT is great at opening ones eyes to how 1st century Christians viewed the idea of God, heaven and Jesus as the messiah and why it makes sense to at least give belief in God a chance.....great book! Highly recommend it.
