Yes, Virginia, computers used to come with operating manuals instead of user agreements and disclaimers. Over time, the power of the web made manuals pretty much a thing of the past, but XP Pro was right at that time before absolutely everything was on the Internet, it came without a useful manual, and hence this book. It was a "missing manual" in that reading it would put you so sleep, but if you were patient, the information was in there. I don't suppose they're selling a whole lot of these today, but I'm submitting this review just to get it off my list of purchases needing review.

Another home run from Pogue Press! I kept this along side my computer for clear, expert guidance as I plumbed my way through XP. Thanks to Mr. Pogue the trip went quite smoothly. The company slogag "The book that should have been in the box" really says it all. Thanks for making my introduction to XP such an effortless one devoid of the mystifying terminology and instructions that confuse the newby rather than help.

as good as an OS manual can be. This is probably the last copy to an XP manual to ever be sold. The evil empire's best-ever operating system doesn't seem to work too well on today's equipment.

I got a new computer with Vista. What a mess, never could get anything done with it. Went back to XP and got the book "Windows XP Pro The Missing Manual" This is definately one great book. If you want to learn and know all about Windows XP this is the book. Like the title says it should have been in the box. Maybe some day Microsoft will get with it and include good manuals in there products.

I have bought too many 'helper' books, manuals etc. over the years - and mostly found them cumbersome and hard-to digest. NOT so with the David Pogue & Zacker "Missing Manual". I can relate to several questions that needed explanations - and every time I check them out in this publication - I get the answers that serve my curiosity - and by that, tremendously improve my XP experiences and work. This Manual is for us, who are 'non-geeks' and like to improve our skills. Thank you, guys!

The windows XP Pro the Missing Manual came in better than expected condition. Arrived prior to promised date. It looked brand new except for a few sentences highlighted in various parts.I was very pleased. The book is very informative and worth buying for anyone wanting to master XP. Has real and easy to follow instructions and explanations, not like the Microsoft big manual. Recomend it's purchase.Thank you Book Jingle. JKG

These manuals are terrific. They are easy to understand, are thorough, and contain many helpful hints.

This book is truly the missing manual to windows XP. I'd recommend anyone to get this book to learn about their operating system!

The Pats: An Illustrated History of the New England Patriots, by Glenn Stout

Review

“Listen up, one and all: this is the book every Patriots fan has been waiting for. Glenn Stout and Richard Johnson are not merely writers of sport. They are legitimate sports historians. Big difference. It’s all here, triumphs, warts and all, in exquisite detail. And it is spectacularly illustrated. You’re not going to get this anywhere else. Hold all calls. we have a journalistic winner.” —Bob Ryan, Boston Globe columnist emeritus and ESPN commentator “From Billy Sullivan to Bill Belichick—plus everything in between—the history of the Patriots is all here—the good, the bad, the ugly, and the ridiculously great.  And there’s the plain ridiculous, too, like the Pats game that was won by a fan who ran onto the field in street clothes and deflected a last-second foe’s pass.  The writing is so vivid that even folks who loathe all things New England and couldn’t tell a Gronk from a grunt will be riveted.  Who knew men as varied as Boston Catholic Diocese Cardinal Richard Cushing and beat pioneer Jack Kerouac were interwoven into the Patriots complex birth? From epic stadium plumbing issues to traffic jams, from hell to perhaps the oddest head coach in NFL history—the unstable Clive Rush—this history is a page-turner as great as the Super Bowls Tom Brady has won again and again.” —Rick Telander, Sports Columnist, Chicago Sun-Times, author of Heaven Is A Playground and The Hundred Yard Lie   "Comprehensive and both timeless and timely, this is a must-read for all hardcore Pats fans." —Chris Ballard, Senior Writer, Sports Illustrated and author of One Shot at Forever   "Who knew that the remorseless victory machine we know today as the New England Patriots hit so many bumps and took so many tumbles along the road to glory? Glenn Stout and Richard Johnson celebrate the team where it’s due, but they also chasten and chide, and bring in another half-dozen voices to vary the perspective. The Pats is a jubilee of anecdote and unlikelihood, with character after fascinating character dropped in—a book not just for the Patriots fan, but for anyone curious about pro football, New England, and how even the most apparently hopeless franchise can build a winning culture." —Alexander Wolff, author of The Audacity of Hoop: Basketball and the Age of Obama "Glenn Stout and Richard Johnson do so much more than explore the history of Boston sports. With their dazzling skill for looking beyond the box scores and scoring summaries, they whisk us back in time to old ballparks, long-ago games and the personalities who made Boston a dynamic sports town. What Stout and Johnson did for baseball with Red Sox Century they now do for football with The Pats." —Steve Buckley, Boston Herald  “If you’re a fan of great football or just great writing, you’ll love The Pats. It covers the birth of football through the Pats’ wilderness years to the current dynasty -- and everything in between -- with fresh insight, bite, and humor from an All-Pro roster of writers. The story of Tom Brady’s unlikely ascension to the throne alone is worth the price, but this book also serves as a prism for the game itself. As captivating as a two-minute drill.” —John U. Bacon, New York Times bestselling author of Endzone"For those Patriots fans who feel as if they need a little football fix to get through halftime, a lively new book that tells the origin story of the Pats may be just the thing to pass the 12-minute break in the action."—The Boston Globe “Even for fans who can’t get enough of the New England Patriots, The Pats should either satisfy their voracious appetites or come mighty close. It’s a richly illustrated, large-format book that is as generous in chronicling the team’s modern success as it is in recounting its humble origins and many lean years.”—Christian Science Monitor “The best sports book of 2018. Detailed, carefully crafted, filled with fun, facts, passion, timeless and fabulous photographs throughout, this book is a keeper.”—BaseballReflections.com  "The Pats takes fans on a wild ride that explores the multi-Super Bowl winning team’s past, present and future . . . It is the first book to tell the complete story of the Patriots. The author’s astounding research, archival photos, and essays from notable authors, journalists and local celebrities make for the single best work on the team."—The Sun (VT)

I happened to hear an interview with one of the authors on Vermont Public Radio and immediately ordered the book. Right from the get go where the authors talked about how New England was New York Giants territory pre AFL I knew this was going to be good because I can remember watching the Giants as a kid.To anyone who can remember sitting in Nickerson Field or Fenway Park or on the metal benches in Schaefer Stadium freezing you butt off watching or following the trials and tribulations of the "Patsies", you will enjoy reliving the history, as painful as it was to be a fan at the time. For anyone under the age of 25 who has only known the Patriots as the dynasty they have been since 2001, this will be a great history lesson for you and help you to understand the pain and suffering afflicted on long time fans by this team which has made the past 18 years so special.Lot's of great stories, anecdotes, memorabilia and insights put together in chronological order. Not a piece of literature but a concise, well written and assembled history of the franchise which any Pat's fan should enjoy and help you savor what has been so special about the 21st century Patriots. For the haters out there, sorry but it sucks to be you! I only hope that the revised edition of 2028 will show how the Pats dynasty continued...While I am a Kindle aficionado, I strongly suggest buying the hard cover version of this book.

Bought the book for my husband for Christmas. He has been a Patriots fanall of his life. HE LOVES IT! It is different from everything he owns, and believeme, he owns A LOT of memorabilia!

AS a long time fan--at the first game in 1960, is the most comprehensive and thorough book, I have read about the Patriots. The authors are very well informed and share stories that have happened over decades. This should be a must read for all Patrios fans.

Love it

Bought this for my husband for Christmas as he is a big Patriots fan. He was amazed at the information in this book. Great gift.

Put out by the Boston Globe hoes through the whole season

Matthew Kratter does an excellent job at getting right to the point on investing in great businesses, starting on page #6. Pay close attention to page #17, 22 and the summary on page #24. I knew all of these things already but never "put it all together" as he did on his summary page, #24. I just ordered four more of his books. A must have for every beginning or semi-beginning stock investor.

This is the first book (after many) I have read that answers my questions without all the bla-bla-bla. It has more useful information to guide me in knowing what to look for and how to figure out what is good and what is bad.I found the FOUR STEPS ( in chapter 4) the most valuable help for me.Matt's style of righting makes this a great educational book and He gets right to the point .This should be required reading for those of us starting out.Keep them coming !!!

I wish I had this book twenty years ago. It explains exactly what a quality company is and how to evaluate one. The book also succinctly explains the formulas used to evaluate a stock purchase and when to buy. I learned so much in just forty five minutes. I am going to recommend this book to every one I know, especially the younger generations.

If you invest in the market, this is a great book to get. I been in the market for over 40 years and I do day trading, swing trading and day trading. This is the third book I bought from Mathew and it is great. I learned some important info in it. I will keep some of the main goals that Warren Buffetthas in my future buying. Thanks Matthew for making it easy to understand Warren's evaluations.TK from Chicago

A concise and very well written book explaining how to evaluate a stock. The information in the book allows you to look at the date of the stock and quickly determine if it’s something worth investing in. I highly recommend this book and it’s only about 35 to 40 pages.

Great synopsis of what quality value stocks are and how to find them. Matt has created another clear, concise trove of information - this one to develop a practical Warren Buffet type watch list to consider. I appreciate free access to the Kindle version, however, my review is based upon the value I believe this short informative book provides.

I enjoyed this one! It’s a quick read and is full of anecdotal references that will come in handy to a novice trader like me looking to expand. The reason why it doesn’t have five stars? It is basically a coke add. Yes I liked the examples but I would’ve liked some from other companies as well. But it worked KO is on my buy list!! :) thank you for the read!

Hello my name is Blair. I've read several of his books, four. And they are a treasure trove on information. I highly recommend that anyone that serious about getting into the stock market. I plain to purchase all on this books.

Noah's Curse: The Biblical Justification of American Slavery (Religion in America)

Review

"Well-researched, interdisciplinary, and strongly moral Historians of American religion, race relations, or slavery, as well as theologians interested in the interplay between the Bible, culture, and social problems, will find this book as excellent resource."-- The Journal of Religion"Noah's Curse must be recognized as the most innovative and enlightening study of the Biblical defense of American slavery ever published. The dubious legend of Noah, as Stephen R. Haynes points out, is still with us, along with the Confederate symbols flying over public places and fundamentalists denouncing racial mixing. The Southern mind, he brilliantly explains, has woven the conventions of honor, the burdens of shame, the practice of race subordination, and the concept of divine grace into a single cultural fabric. In the field of religious and sectional history, this work will take an honored place next to the studies of Eugene Genovese and Donald Mathews. No one interested in American religious history can ignore this intellectually powerful study."--Bertram Wyatt-Brown, University of Florida; Author of Southern Honor and The Shaping of Southern Culture"The ancient rabbis suggested that every biblical text has seventy legitimate meanings (and no doubt an infinite number of illegitimate ones). Stephen Haynes has produced an amazing history of interpretation of the Ham and Nimrod narratives. It becomes clear through his careful research that such texts are supple and vulnerable to misguided theological passion. This book lets us reflect on old mistakes and, by inference, invites us to reflect on our own availability for parallel misreadings. Noah's Curse is an exercise in historical disclosure not to be missed by those who care about the crisis of reading in the church and in a Bible-rooted culture."--Walter Brueggemann, Professor of Old Testament, Columbia Theological Seminary; Author of Spirituality of the Psalms>"Haynes's study provides a thorough and rich sense of the interpretive history of the scriptural story"--Christian Century

Fundamental to anyone studying the Antebellum South and American religious history. This is an outstanding and thoroughly sourced work.

I would re-subtitle the book the Genesis Justification of Slavery. From a biblical approach he narrowly looked at the historical and theological traditions of Genesis' interpretation. Of this scholarship it was magnificent, but if one names the book "Biblical justification of slavery" I would expect it to cover more than just Genesis. He does not approach the issue of slavery from a systematic theology perspective at all.

The Old Testament has never been of much interest to me either theological or literary. Perhaps being able to read this book is one reason I rate it with four stars. There are faults with this work, not the least of which is the author's over use of quotations. He points out many interesting writers on the subject, but comes short in discussing the varied views they represent. He does offer the point that Noah's curse on his son has a place in the proslavery literature in America. He presents us with many quotations of many authors without informing us of the acceptance or rejection of these beliefs by the layity. One of the most interesting people he presents is Josiah Priest, "a New Yorker known for his frontier adventure stories, Indian captivity narratives, and `true' tales of the Revolutionary War. [page 42]...whose Slavery as It Relates to the Negro or African Race (1843) was widely read before the Civil War [page 69]." The statement of Priest's position in the authorities of the slavery movement tkes the author 47 pages. For someone unacquainted with Josiah Priest this is a long delay. ( This very influential book is available in a reprint from Amazon.) Bishop John Hopkins of Vermont is also cited on page 75 but the author again neglects to place him in perspective of the 19th century crisis. The modern scholar Bertram Wyatt Brown is cited by the author 10 times in relation to part sSouthern honor played in the interpretation of Noah's curse. He should have spent more time on contemporary authors if he wanted to show the place of this scripture in the 1800's.Benjamin M. Palmer, a 19th century cleric, ranks very high with the author; Palmer is considered from page 125 to 174. Perhaps my problem with this book is that the author tries to make a book out of the handling of Noah's curse on Ham and the tenuous connection of it with American slavery. If you are interested in the curse itself or in Noah or the Old Testament then you will rpbably enjoy this book.If I were not interested in the place of religion in the justification of slavery I would not have bought it. Upon reflection I can't say it was a good buy. Personal prejudice creeps in here. I don not believe that Noah ever existed, that there was ever a curse on poor Ham because he had sex with his mother, or that it would make any difference it this all took place. I am more interested in the effect these writings had on the populace of the time. If the reader's main interest is in the life of Noah or Ham this is probable a good buy.

It was required reading.

Although Dr. Haynes, a religion professor at Memphis' Rhodes College sent me this book, as part of his self explanation for the more recent LAST SEGREGATED HOUR, (OXFORD 20120) I didn't really study it until the more recent book came out, and I highly recommend NOAH'S CURSE as a key component of comprehending this young scholar's serious commitment to comprehending the incomprehensible - organized and systematic color race prejudice within his own Christian denomination, (and in the larger Christian community), for he is an ordained Presbyterian minister. For me, his recent FACEBOOK page about the LAST Seg Hour, shows a photo of young people, black and white, lined up around a fortress like front of Memphis' 2nd Presbyterian Church where we stood for many weeks and my guess is the photo came only from the black press, as the activities remained "INVISIBLE" in the 'white press' of Mamphis for many, many weeks, reflecting the power and the propensity of white folk to ignore any challenge, however logical or VIVID, as my old Southwestern English prof would say, to their their false image of their own superiority, moral, spiritual, financial, intellectual, and well, you name it. A kind of ever willing 'superiority' that rings down thru the ages of American culture. The book is all the more interesting, as it surveys not only the leading Presbyterion pastor, (and Southwester.Rhodes founder) Palmer from New Orleans, in two great chapters, one devoted to his sermons in defense of slavery, but another to his sermons in defense of segregation. Haynes puts this in context even of medieval thinkers on this particular story, and frankly, even though as a lawyer I realized in the last decade the BIBLE,or Sunday school materials, are the only PRINT most folk read, once they leave high school or college, it still is stunning that such a ambiguous ancient story about Jewish tribes thousands of years ago should have so much power into the 20th and 21st Century. Perhaps the editors of the journal NARRATIVE should take note and do one of their special editions on it, as to this reader it has literary, psychological and philosophical implications not yet pondered. (Or perhaps in Not Seeing, as in Nazi - ing, such avoidance has beendemonatrated, yet still not ordinarily taken account of. Howard Romaine

I liked this book overall. It's an interesting bit of analysis on the issue. The author is a religious scholar, though, not a political historian. The analysis is very good, but there's not a great deal of discussion about how the South used the "curse" to justify slavery. That information is there, just not in as great a depth as possible. A nice addition to the study of religion and slavery, however.

HERETICS is the fifth of the six installments of the DUNE series Frank Herbert penned before his premature death in 1986, and it is not an easy book to review. The complexity of the universe he built, and the density of his writing, to say nothing of the intricacy (some might say turgidity) of the plot, almost defy a concise analysis, but here goes.HERETICS takes place 1,500 years after the events of GOD EMPEROR OF DUNE. Leto II is long dead and his empire has broken up into a loose series of overlapping confederations with no real central authority. Remnants of the Old Empire -- the Bene Gesserit sisterhood, the Bene Tleilax confederacy, the Spacing Guild, the machine-builders of Ix, and the Fish Speakers -- still exist, but enfeebled, in competition with each other, and with none playing a dominant role. So when aggressive forces from the Scattering -- the great migration of humanity beyond the boundaries of the known universe, which occurred after Leto II's death -- begin to return to the core planets from which they fled fifteen centuries before, there is not much to stand in their way. These forces, called Honored Matres, are a sort of twisted offshoot of the Bene Gesserit; a massive sisterhood whose members possess extraordinary physical and mental powers, but who are vicious, arrogant, amoral and bent on subjugating everyone in their path. The story revolves around the efforts of the Bene Gesserit to resist this invasion while simultaneously investigating a mysterious occurrence on the planet Arrakis -- now called Rakis -- involving a young girl named Sheanna with the seeming power to communicate and command the spiceworms there. On top of this, the sisters are trying to prevent the assassination of their "ghola," Duncan Idaho, the perennial character of the DUNE series (some version of him appears in all 5,000 years of the story's history), who they intend to breed with Sheanna. To this end they bring their Mentat-warrior, Miles Teg, a descendant of House Atriedes, out of retirement to protect Duncan and awaken his pre-death memories. In the mean time, the sly and mysterious Tleilaxu, who need to be courted as allies against the Honored Matres, have, as always, plans of their own, plans which must be reconciled with those of the Bene Gesserit if the "whores of the Scattering" are to be defeated. If all this sounds nebulous and complicated, it is. Herbert's universe, 5,000 years after the events of the first book, is still a complicated and intrigue-ridden place, full of economic, political and religious forces of every kind, not to mention what he once called "stacked treacheries." Unlike the original book, however, everyone's motives are so well-hidden that even the reader is often left guessing as to their final goals. The pace of the book is uneven, and some of the chapters are over-written and waste too much time on needless description or self-indulgent internal monologues. In many ways, however, this book represents a welcome semi-return to Herbert's original form. The trouble with DUNE MESSIAH, CHILDREN OF DUNE and GOD EMPEROR OF DUNE was the ever-increasing sluggishness and complexity of his prose writing and dialogue, which became so mystical, pompous and unclear in meaning as to be almost unreadable. The characters spoke in riddles and epigrams, trading non-sequiturs with each other while plunging into deep metaphysical internal monologues. Whenever a man is as deliberately mysterious as Herbert was with GOD EMPEROR, I always wonder if in fact he has anything to say at all. But HERETICS features more action, better dialogue, and more general clarity than any other book since the original DUNE. It's true he makes the Bene Gesserit too powerful, with the result that the enemies who are supposed to be so fearful -- the Tlielaxu and the Honored Matres -- aren't as menacing as Herbert intends -- but you can't have everything. I still maintain that Herbert's original universe was more interesting than anything he came up with later, especially in terms of the characters, and he never again achieved that particular genius of prose he rose to in the first book, but at least here he pulled largely away from the god-awful, soggy pseudo-philosophy that ruined the others.

This is book five in the Dune series. It takes place a few millennia after the events in book four. This book is more action based than the previous one. Dune now called Rakis, it has returned to being a desert planet due to the re-emergence of the sandtrout, an organism critical to the development of sandworms, because Dune's most famous lifeform is no longer extinct, the return of the all-important spice to the planet. The empire fell into chaos before the return of the sandworms, due to the scarcity of spice. This created the "Scattering" in which much of the population sought the extreme edges of the universe to find other sources of spice or to expand the location of humanity. As the book opens, many people have returned but the exodus had changed them. There is also a new force to deal with in the guise of the Honored Matres. They are very similar to the Bene Gesserit but the Matres use sex as a weapon and force of rule.Duncan Idaho was the swordmaster of Duke Leto centuries earlier. As if raising him from the dead, the Bene Gesserit have been using gholas, or clones, of Duncan through the years. But the Tleilaxu, a race which creates gholas, have always assassinated the Duncan Idaho gholas before they reach full adulthood. However, the Bene Gesserit now have an elaborate plan in place to protect the most recent reincarnation of their ghola. In the meantime, on Rakis, a child is discovered by the priests that can control the sandworms. The Bene Gesserit hear of this and immediately take over Rakis in the hopes of controlling the young girl. The Honored Matres also find this out and seek to destroy the ghola and the girl and Rakis. Needless to say, this is the setup for battles to be fought and destinies to be determined. Many entangled plots resolve into an outcome that makes this book yet another great adventure in the Duneverse created by Frank Herbert.

I'm really very disappointing to the point of being angry. I felt tugged between extreme boredom and some very very well written moments between characters. I grew very impatient with the back and fourth in every chapter and then getting into it only to have the story fizz out like a balloon with no pop. Pissed me the hell off honestly. I'm reading the sample of Chapter house to see if I can get over this and read the last of the Herbert books before his son took over. God Emperor Dune was such a perfect and genius piece of science fiction. It resonated with me for years. To go from that to this is utterly frustrating. Maybe if they had published both Chapter House and Heretics in one I might have had less to moan about. We shall see how Chapter house goes.

This book was by far my favorite in the series. I was sad to have finished it, the characters were so real and honest and inspiring in their humanity or lack of it. Miles Teg was a man i wish i could have known. Mr Herbert's grasp of so many disciplines, politics, science, metaphysics, culture and psychology is without match in weaving together an epic story.

Beautiful collection of photos of the Twin Cities. The only drawback is that it has practically no photos of the Cities in winter.

The Mindspan Diet: Reduce Alzheimer's Risk, Minimize Memory Loss, and Keep Your Brain Young, by Preston Estep III

Review

“Eye-opening . . . fascinating, important . . . [Dr. Preston Estep] examines populations who have both long lives and long mindspans—which he calls the ‘mindspan elite’—using the latest information on metabolism and genetics to understand their dietary secrets. Most surprising is his assertion that after age forty, iron, dairy, and whole grains can be harmful to metabolism and contribute to diseases associated with aging, including dementia. . . . Estep includes plenty of practical info on improving one’s mindspan and puts some refined grains back on the table.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)“Presenting a sensible regimen that people can follow easily, this recommended diet book [has] useful information about aging.”—Library Journal“Dr. Estep exposes common misconceptions and well-intentioned but misguided advice on aging and diet. Rigorously researched, this book is also full of tasty tips—illuminating not just a set of rules to follow as blindly as the last set, but how you can apply scientific methods to assess these and other important issues in our increasingly technical world. You owe it to your family, friends, and personal curiosity to digest and share this amazing feast of ideas.”—George M. Church, Ph.D., Robert Winthrop Professor of Genetics and Professor of Health Sciences and Technology, Harvard Medical School   “This gem of a book offers a practical road map for maximizing vibrant cognitive functioning throughout life. We come away convinced that a longer and better life is as close as our own kitchen cupboards. And the Chickpea and Fava Bean Tapenade is to not die for!”—Ronald C. Kessler, Ph.D., McNeil Family Professor of Health Care Policy, Harvard Medical School   “Founded on rigorous scientific evidence and up-to-date research, The Mindspan Diet debunks myths and misinformation that have become widespread among nutritional ‘experts.’ It provides a few simple changes that we can all incorporate to give ourselves the best opportunity for longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.”—Matt Kaeberlein, Ph.D., Professor of Pathology and founding director of the Healthy Aging and Longevity Research Institute at the University of Washington   “Compelling and provocative, this book details dietary choices that will maximize your chances of having a long ‘mindspan.’ ”—Brian Kennedy, Ph.D., president and CEO, Buck Institute for Research on Aging“A fascinating guide to modifying your diet to prolong the longevity of your brain as well as your health.”—Dr. Tim Spector, author of The Diet Myth

This is an important book. It's main assertion is that iron-fortification of grains combined with American preferences for meat lead to iron levels for older adults that are well above what is needed and that can prove toxic in several respects. (The author is most interested in the adverse impacts on brain function). Though there has been a bit of similar thinking in Germany and to a lesser extent in the United States, this remains a very contrarian view and most food "experts" seem to believe the more iron, the better.Being contrarian does not mean that Estep is correct. But I have checked the numbers, and his case that the vast majority of adults are getting much more iron than needed appears irrefutable. I don't understand chemistry as well as statistics, so cannot attest to the claim of toxic effects. Still, the circumstantial evidence seems strong that decreasing iron consumption would contribute to better brain health.Estep's conclusions are based on populations around the world known for their longevity and brain health, as well as his understanding of human evolution as a leading expert on the human genome. That's certainly enough for me to check labels more carefully and reduce iron intake.

…Just finished reading this delightfully written brilliant book by Preston Estep, Ph.D. with profound personal respect and appreciation.Dr. Estep presents a rather comprehensive review of existing scientific data, a thorough personal analysis, and practical recommendations.Behind the text of Dr. Estep’s book, a reader will feel his personal passion, will be impressed by his solid updated scientific knowledge, and will appreciate his promising and realistic vision on how to improve our longevity and mind-span by using a healthy diet/nutrition and other healthy life style approaches. This book is an absolute must read if we really care about good health, longevity, and clarity of mind for ourselves and for our loved ones. (YN)

A richly researched, scientific guide to cognitive health. Dr. Estep is a hard-core scientist, and this book presents the results of years of research done not only by him, but by researchers worldwide in the fields of genetics, molecular biology, dietary science, and mental health. Therefore it's only natural that in many cases it presents conclusions that clash with the conventional wisdom based on conjecture, folklore, and gossipy anecdotes. It could be one of the most important books you'll read in your lifetime, if you listen carefully and absorb its messages. For many readers it can be a turning point in life; and we may hope that this book, the first of its kind, may be a turning point in the popular presentation of scientific knowledge about diet and health.

Great book.

Already getting results.

A good counterbalance to all the dietary craziness out there. Anyone in the "old" category, or going to be old, has got to be concerned about dementias.

Still reading, but so informative. He's a good writer too.

I think it is terrific and full of wise information. I had read my library copy and then ordered it so I could have a copy of my own.Nan
